“Only one sport has ever been played on the moon. There endeth the argument as far as I’m concerned.”
When West Park golf club hosts a Pro-Am tournament, club captain Mike Peters and his wife Naomi have visions of Tiger Woods and Colin Montgomerie flying in. However the three “Legends” that do arrive are not the sort of people the club was hoping to attract at all. “Nasty” Nigel Gainsford is an ex-tour winner with a barely subdued and violent temper… Alex “Sweetspot” Haynes is a smooth lothario who conforms to every stereotype in the book and “Optic” Jack Preston, can barely pick up a golf club without a swig of whiskey first.
As the tournament unfolds amongst the lush green landscape of middle England, a combination of sexual, racial and class tensions erupt and throw up a string of surprises and crises culminating in a nail-biting playoff where winner takes all.
A contemporary comedy of manners, anchored by a romance of epic proportions, The Club plays out against a back drop of disco dancing, low cut dresses and a randy labradoodle. The Club is where a disappointed man can become a hero.
